Russian River Valley, Laughlin Road Ranch |
| This was a wonderful year for the 2007 Pinot Noirs coming out of the Russian River
Valley. With no exceptions, this single vineyard produced a high quality, rich style Pinot
Noir. The color is very pretty garnet that glimmers around the glass. As you swirl the
wine its texture clings to the glass and moves ever so slowly down the sides. Both aromas
and bouquets are constant, with touches of cherry, red raspberry, and from the vines and
soil you get small hints of stones and mineral. The mouth feel is rich with both fruit and
minerality showing from the low yields that we get in the vineyard. The taste has all
facets of berries and touches of vanilla, spices of cloves and ginger that come partially
from both new and one and two year old Francois Frere French oak barrels. This is a
seductive Pinot Noir that can drink very nicely now, but will get tremendous with good
bottle aging of 4 to 6 years. If you like well made Pinot Noir that has not been
overworked but has been gently handled, then you might want to try this small
production Pinot Noir from a fabulous vineyard fanned and owned by a family that
knows how to grow Pinot Noir grapes (Martinelli). It all starts in the vineyard and we
hand craft the wine with the up most care. The wine was not fed or filtered to keep all
the flavors and to show all of its character and attributes. Enjoy this wonder and exciting
2007 Mara Pinot Noir. |
